How-toLibraries and CarriersTransfer a carrier between libraries

Transfer a carrier between libraries

Move a carrier from one library to another within the same organization. The carrier keeps its Carrier ID and its full history, so printed labels and QR codes stay valid and nothing about its record is lost.

Transfers are initiated from the carrier’s detail page by a Library Owner of the source library (or an Org Admin). You can only transfer within your own organization.

Steps

1. Confirm the carrier can be transferred

A carrier can only be transferred when it is Available, In Repair, or Archived. A carrier that is On loan or Reserved can’t be transferred — check it in or cancel the reservation first.

2. Open the transfer dialog

On the carrier’s detail page, choose Transfer.

3. Pick the destination library

Select a destination library within your organization from the list, then confirm.

4. Confirm the transfer

Complete the transfer. The carrier is reassigned to the destination library right away.

What moves with the carrier

The transfer keeps everything tied to the carrier:

  • The Carrier ID stays the same — the ID is org-scoped, so printed labels and QR codes remain valid and don’t need reprinting.
  • The full loan history, condition timeline, and notes move with the carrier.
  • The transfer itself is logged with the time, who initiated it, and the source and destination libraries.

After the transfer, the carrier appears in the destination library’s inventory and no longer in the source library’s.
