Quick-create during check-out
Add a new person without leaving the check-out flow. This is the common path at a meetup, when a first-time borrower who’s not in the system yet wants to check out a carrier and isn’t in your records. Anyone who can check a carrier out — any assigned User (volunteer), Library Owner, or Org Admin — can quick-create a caregiver.
Steps
1. Search for the caregiver first
In the Find or add the caregiver step of check-out, search by name. Quick-create is for people who aren’t already in your organization — searching first avoids a duplicate record. If a name comes up that looks like the same person, check their email or phone before creating a new record — two people can share a name, but a match on contact details usually means they’re already in the system.
2. Open quick add
If there’s no match, choose Quick add to open the Quick add caregiver dialog.
3. Enter first and last name
Only First name and Last name are required. That’s enough to complete the check-out.
4. Add contact details (optional)
You can expand the dialog to add Email, Phone, co-caregiver fields, and the newsletter and mass-email opt-outs — but none are required, and you can safely skip all of them and fill them in later.
5. Add the caregiver
Save the dialog. The new caregiver is created and selected in the check-out, so you can continue lending without switching screens.
After quick-create
The caregiver now exists as a full caregiver record shared across your whole organization — the same record you’d get from Add caregiver. You can open it later to add contact details, record a waiver, or fill in anything you skipped.
A caregiver created this way has no waiver on file yet, so check-out shows a waiver reminder that doesn’t stop you. The check-out still proceeds.
